AW12 'Phosphorous'

Fading in and out of darkness
Shinobi chooses to be seen
At one with the night
Light and dark in between
In her phosphorous cloak
Shadows of the city

Maria Lau's Autumn Winter 2012 collection Phosphorous continues the journey of her SS12 muse 'Silver Shinobi', more commonly referred to as 'ninja' in the Western world. The 'Dark Shinobi' by nightfall has the supernatural ability to become invisible and manipulate natural elements. She blends with the urban landscape bringing a monochromatic colour palette of blacks and gunmetal, with an injection of lava and elongated studs for the darker season.

Lau combines intricate and eclectic styled beading with hematine and glass crystals with a new sculptural technique, deftly weaving and wrapping in the bolder textures of shock-cord elastic and leather thong between black PVC cord to create simple yet bolder structures for statement jewellery. 'Phosphorous' AW12 sees a continuation of new materials and techniques to create a dramatic jewellery collection featuring sculptural necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

Skyscrapers punctuating Dark Shinobi's world are transformed into a unique bodychain with glistening spinal columns rendering the jewelled piece both organic and futuristic. The fluid bodychain merges with a structured collar necklace and features a central clasp to update the chain from day into night. The detailed spine feature emphasises the lower back area of the body, one that is often overlooked.

Other materials used in this collection include black plated metal beads with stainless steel studs and chain. 'Phosphorous' is for the adventurous. This is a luxurious and dynamic collection with stand-alone pieces to create impact.
